Bill C-50 passed in the House of Commons
November 04, 2009

Bill C-50 to extend Employment Insurance Benefits was passed in the House of Commons yesterday.  The Bill will provide additional support to unemployed Canadians extending benefits up to 20 weeks for long-tenured workers.

“This is the right action at the right time” said Joe Preston, Member of Parliament for Elgin-Middlesex-London. “We have had to push hard to get this done. Let’s hope the Senate moves quickly to adopt this legislation.”

In yesterday’s vote, Liberal and Bloc MPs voted against the extension with support coming from the Conservatives and NDP.  The Bill has now moved on to the Senate for final approval.
