Last night, Bill C-50 to extend employment insurance benefits up to 20 weeks received Royal Assent. 

The temporary measure will provide additional help for long-tenured workers while they search for new employment.

Joe Preston, MP for Elgin-Middlesex-London was extremely pleased to hear that the bill have moved so swiftly through the Senate with no amendments yesterday stating “the unemployed need this assistance now and this will unsure that hard working Canadians hardest hit by the global recession have the support they need. This is the right action and the right time.”
