Community leaders join together to support Haiti
January 29, 2010

St. Thomas, ON
~ Friday, January 29, 2010, was quite a shocking day for many patrons of the St. Thomas Wendy’s franchise. Whether it was the St. Thomas Police Chief handing food and drinks out of the drive-thru window, the mayor working the fountain machine or the Member of Parliament salting your fries, community leaders joined together to raise money for the victims of Haiti.

The event was organized by Tony Bendel of Rogers Cable. With a few phone calls, Bendel rounded up MP Joe Preston, MPP Steve Peters, Mayor Cliff Barwick, Police Chief Peter Lynch, Fire Prevention Officers Bill Todd and Brian Leverton, Rogers Talk show Host Mike Vecchio and many other community representatives to work the event.

Volunteers from Canada Red Cross where on-site and collected over $549.00. Marcie Pearse, Managing Partner of St. Thomas Wendy’s committed to $1 from every sale of a combo or large salad. Through sales, they collected $327 that evening and decided to round it up to $1000. The Government of Canada will be matching all donations.

“This is just the right thing to do” said Joe Preston, MP.  “Although we as a community are finding ourselves in difficult times, we continue to dig deep into our pockets to help others.”
