September 28, 2009

Today, in the House of Commons, Bill C-391 to eliminate the Gun Registry was debated.

MP Candice Hoeppner representing Portage Lisgar tabled the private members bill to eliminate the long-gun registry.  Debate stated with MP Hoeppner asking members of the House “to stand up for what their constituents want and for what they believes is in the best interest of Canadians.”

Joe Preston, Member of Parliament for Elgin-Middlesex-London stated “I am very happy to have moved a unanimous consent motion this morning in the house to pave the way for debate to take place today.  Canadian farmers and hunters have waited a long time for this legislation to be debated.

In 2006, the Conservative Government promised to end the wasteful gun registry and focus important crime-fighting resources on real criminals- not farmer and hunters.
