Government Happenings

Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the itinerary of the Royal Tour of Canada by Her Majesty, The Queen and His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh.
The royal couple will tour Halifax; Toronto; Waterloo, Ontario; Winnipeg; and the National Capital Region from June 28 to July 6. For more details, visit:

The G-20 is the premier forum for our international economic development that promotes open and constructive discussion between industrial and emerging-market countries on key issues related to global economic stability. Citizen Recognition
Brandon Card was awarded First Place in the 2010 Elgin-Middlesex-London Poster Challenge. Card, a Grade 6 Student at Summer’s Corners submitted his poster under the theme “My Canada is….”. Posters submitted to the constituency office were voted on by the general public who visited the office. Card’s poster depicted the 2010 Winter Olympics, a totem pole, a beaver and the mountains. Preston presented Card with a limited edition 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Jacket. Congratulations Brandon on an outstanding job. Events

Canada Day was in full swing throughout the riding. Joe visited many festivities including fireworks in Southwold, a pancake breakfast in Dorchester, opening ceremonies of CanFest at the Port Stanley Legion, walk-abouts in East Elgin and St. Thomas, Dutton’s opening ceremonies and West Lorne’s fireworks. Joe also participated in CanFest by judging “Best Decorated Home”.

Many events will be taking place in the riding throughout the summer months including the Annual Seniors’ Picnic; Cactus, Cowboys and Cattle; The IronHorse Festival, Rodeo Days and the Watermelon Festival.
