Fanshawe College opens the Centre for applied transportation technologies
Fanshawe officially opened its new Centre for Applied Transportation Technologies (CATT) on May 13, 2011.
The new Centre will accommodate 1,500 students who are seeking job-ready credentials in trades and technologies that support the transportation industry.
School of Transportation Technology student Daniel Kennedy spoke at the opening ceremonies on behalf of students, thanking the donors and sponsors who made the new Centre possible. He also thanked the College for investing in the best facilities and programming for its students.
In addition to state-of-the-art equipment and learning tools, the 148,000-square-foot facility features a variety of exciting green innovations, including a vegetated green roof occupying 48,000 square feet, storm water reclamation, solar-powered GPS tracking skylights for natural day-lighting in the shops and other environmental and sustainability initiatives and materials.
The College also hosted a staff, student, alumni and retiree open house on May 12 and a community open house and barbeque on Saturday, May 14.
The Centre was built with funding received in 2009 from the Government of Ontario and the federal government's Knowledge Infrastructure Program.
