Government of Canada Invests in New Business in Middlesex County to Boost Economy and create jobs
March 19, 2011

The Government of Canada is investing in a start-up company in the renewable energy sector that will build foundations for solar panels and wind turbine bases. The investment of $117,000 to DrillTech Canada was announced today by Member of Parliament for Elgin-Middlesex-London Joe Preston, on behalf of Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz.

“This investment means more skilled jobs in Middlesex County.” said MP Preston. “Investing in local green companies like DrillTech Canada is essential to helping the environment and our communities,”

This project will create 8 full-time jobs in the first two years of operation, introducing a new industry skill set to the region.

DrillTech Canada provides a wide-range of services including investigative services for the geotechnical, hydro geological and environmental engineering sectors. This new company will also offer services related to the installation of helical piers which are used for the deep foundation of buildings, anchoring of hydro poles and other high structures susceptible to wind loads.

Helical piers are another method of construction for use in adverse soil conditions and contribute to greener building options. It can also help prevent excavation spoils which would normally be disposed of in landfills.

This capital loan is being provided through the Sand Plains Community Development Fund administered by the Ontario Association of Community Futures Development Corporations. The fund targets community-based initiatives that support regional development, attract and retain people and investment, and stimulate business development and job creation.
