Elgin county council unanimously endorsed a recommendation Tuesday from Warden Graham Warwick for a thank-you luncheon for Joe Preston, Tory MP for Elgin-Middlesex-London and his provincial counterpart, Liberal MPP Steve Peters.

The luncheon is to thank the pair for their "tireless work" on behalf of the county in securing infrastructure funding. In 2009 alone, the county is getting $6 million.

"They've really helped the community," said Warwick.

Coun. John Wilson, mayor of Malahide township, said: "Over the past few years, we've received a lot of support from these gentlemen. They've certainly made things easier for our bank accounts." A date for the luncheon hasn't yet been set.
