Ineffective Long-Gun Registry Scrapped
February 17, 2012

Last evening in the House of Commons, our government voted to abolish the wasteful and ineffective long-gun registry.

In May, 2011, we received a strong mandate to end the registry and we have fulfilled our promise.

“Through the elections of 2004, 2006 , 2008 and 2011, my constituents overwhelmingly pushed for me to vote to stop this wasteful registry,”stated Joe Preston, MP for Elgin-Middlesex-London.  “I promised each election I would. Promise made, Promise kept"

Northern Ontario NDP MPs Bruce Hyer and John Rafferty joined our Government in voting to abolish the wasteful and ineffective long-gun registry once and for all. The Long Gun Registry Act was sent to the Senate in a 159-130 vote.
