The Federal Conservatives plan to deliver on one of their hallmark campaign promises this week. Cariboo-Prince George MP Dick Harris says the Government will introduce a bill to scrap the long gun registry by the end of the week. The move has been a long-time coming for Harris, who says he's been fighting to end the registry since it was introduced in 1995. He says the registry has become a costly intrusion for law-abiding citizens, and the Government wants to focus instead on targeting criminals. "We're doing that through our anti-crime bills," says Harris, "We're putting just a massive amount of them through this fall and then on the other side, we're getting rid of the most unfair, the legislation, which is the gun registry." Now that the Conservatives have a majority, Harris expects the bill to be passed quickly.
