Following months of hope for many rural Canadians, Bill C-391 to eliminate the long-gun registry was voted down.
The Bill introduced in May, 2009 by MP Candice Hoeppner, originally had the support of 20 Opposition Members of Parliament. But last evening in the House of Commons, the Coalition of Liberals, NDP and the Bloc Quebecois voted to keep the long-gun registry.
“This is the furthest we have come to dismantling this wasteful and ineffective long-gun registry,” said Joe Preston, Member of Parliament for Elgin-Middlesex-London. “I will continue to work to abolish it and work for my constituents which include law-abiding hunters, farmers and sports shooters.”
