St. Thomas, Ontario, April 9, 2009—Mr. Joe Preston, Member of Parliament for Elgin–Middlesex–London, today announced federal support for the Valleyview Home under the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
Mr. Preston made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, and the Honourable Marjory LeBreton, Leader of the Government in the Senate and Minister of State (Seniors).
Mr. Preston highlighted $22,700 in funding for the Valleyview Home to help ensure that seniors have the opportunity to participate and take an active leadership role within their community.
“The Government of Canada is proud to support seniors in strengthening our communities and building our country,” said Mr. Preston. “This project will encourage seniors in St. Thomas to continue sharing their skills, wisdom and experience to benefit others.”
The Valleyview Home received funding for its project Come Ride with Me, which will provide the opportunity for seniors with dementia to participate in activities that will promote their interaction with others.
